CULTURE NEWS

  • Francis Marion University will host the 14th annual South Carolina Chamber Music Festival from Feb. 23 to Feb. 27 at its Performing Arts Center + Black Box Theatre in Florence.  SCNow
  • Bethany Hamilton, surfer and writer, will speak at the annual Evening of Hope event at the Florence Center on March 9 at 7 p.m. Attendees will enjoy a musical performance by Megan Woods and pay around $30 for tickets.  WFXB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Colton McElveen, a Lamar High School senior, was named a Post and Courier Pee Dee Academic Achiever for February 2026 and plans to pursue psychiatry after college. He is active in cross country, track, and student government, showing strong leadership on campus.  The Post and Courier

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Florence will add 107 new townhome units as the five projects approved last year move forward, including Dowling Homes’ 10 rental units on W. Cheves Street downtown + additional developments underway on W. Palmetto and Baroody Streets.  WFXB

SPORTS NEWS

  • CCU women’s basketball beat App State 65-64 on Wednesday afternoon at their home court — the close contest secured a narrow win for CCU.  WMBF News
  • Carolina Forest wrestlers will travel to Florence today for the Class 5A state championship without head coach Matt Purdue—he was barred from attending after an eligibility hearing. Nine boys and two girls, qualifying for the first time, will take part in the meet.  WMBF News
  • Loris High School has sent six varsity wrestlers to the state championship at Florence Center this weekend, where they will join 43 Horry County athletes competing for top honors.  WMBF News
