COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dargan’s Pond, a popular local fishing spot near the border of Darlington and Florence counties, remains closed nearly a decade after Hurricane Matthew damaged it in Oct. 2016. Clemson University estimates $7.5 million in repairs are needed after $2.1 million in state funds, so the pond will not reopen soon.  The Post and Courier

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in South Carolina rose 5.6 cents on Monday to average $2.63 per gallon at 3,028 stations—GasBuddy data shows prices are 8.8 cents higher than a month ago and 4.1 cents lower than a year ago. Analysts predict further increases as markets adjust after weekend U.S.—Iran attacks.  WPDE

  • Ryan Cox, a Carolina Academy senior & Post and Courier Pee Dee Academic Achiever for March 2026, will attend The Citadel to study engineering and lead in his community. He excelled in academics, sports, and service by reviving his school’s FCA program and mentoring his peers.  The Post and Courier
  • Jason Brown founded J&J Leadership Academy Inc. in June 2023 in Florence to educate, empower & transform minority male youth into positive change. The academy aims to build leadership skills and create community opportunities.  WPDE
