CRIME NEWS

  • Florence Police Department arrested John Mitchell after he allegedly fired his handgun on the 400 Block of Jarrott Street on Friday morning during an argument at Manna House—he faces charges of aggravated breach of peace and discharging a firearm with no injuries reported.  WMBF News
  • Police arrested Tiffany Prentice Cooper and John C. Smith after a four-hour standoff at a Florence home on Wednesday—CS gas was used to force them out—and they now face additional charges for failing to appear for probation, resisting arrest, and breach of peace.  WPDE

CULTURE NEWS

  • Greg Rowles Legacy Theatre will offer free tickets to first responders for its nightly show ‘Music and Memories’ where live music celebrates hits and classics; emergency personnel may redeem complimentary tickets for themselves and one guest at the box office next week from Monday to Saturday—doors open at 6 p.m. with the show starting at 7 p.m.  WFXB

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Work is progressing on a $66 million Cheney Brothers food distribution facility in Florence County that is expected to create nearly 300 jobs. The 386,047 square-foot complex is being built at Pee Dee Commerce City East Industrial Park on nearly 50 acres across Interstate 95 from Buc-ee's + it will include 45 loading docks, over 100,000 square feet of dry storage, a 90,000 square-foot freezer and the company’s largest culinary kitchen.  WBTW
