  • FMU’s Kappa Delta sorority held its Shamrock Carnival fundraiser Saturday to raise money for Durant Children’s Center, which helps treat children affected by abuse. The event has raised nearly $7,000 over the past two years with 80% of proceeds going to the center and 20% supporting Prevent Child Abuse America.  WPDE

  • One person was killed and three others were injured in a collision in Florence County on Sunday afternoon—authorities report that the investigation is ongoing.  SCNow

  • The owners of a Pee Dee golf course said a vehicle drove across the course last night—leaving tire marks and asking anyone with information to call 843 662 7775.  WBTW

CULTURE NEWS

  • At the Gately Gallery in downtown Florence, the exhibit Payneful Business opened last Thursday night and shows painted portraits with old newspaper ads that once sold enslaved people—curated by Margaret Seidler who uncovered her connection to a historic slave trade in Charleston. The exhibit lets viewers learn about the valuable skills and lives of people who were enslaved.  SCNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florence District 1 approved a new AI policy that invests nearly $500k in technology for schools and will use tools like Google Gemini + Khan Academy's Khanmingo + Magic School to help save teachers time. This move makes Florence 1 the first district in the state to adopt such a policy.  WPDE
