- ➤ Florence residents met Monday at Pearl Moore basketball center to share ideas on parks and recreation with CCU graduate students who are gathering feedback from surveys and focus groups (including over 900 responses). The students will use the data (to help city officials create a master plan by late spring) that aims to make targeted improvements to community facilities. WPDE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Florence began a $6 million stormwater improvement project in the Timrod Park area as part of its master plan to upgrade infrastructure on Cedar Street and McQueen Street—work designed to reduce flooding during frequent small rain events. City officials said federal grants and oversight by the South Carolina Office of Resilience support the project to protect local waterways downstream. WPDE
- ➤ On Tuesday morning at the Florence County Judicial Center, Ryan White announced his candidacy for 12th Circuit Solicitor+ pledging to fight for justice for families in Florence and Marion Counties. - ➤ South Carolina lawmakers have set up a Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device Program under Emma's Law to help stop drunk driving. First-time DUI offenders must use the device for six months while repeat offenders must use it for two years, and drivers caught without it face criminal charges. WPDE
