- ➤ South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson warned parents about a dangerous online trend called the 764 Movement that exploited children and teens to record self-harm and abuse—he said the FBI investigated the disturbing footage and Senate Bill 74 was discussed in the House to strengthen child protection. - ➤ Authorities in Florence County arrested 28-year-old Maleek Fulton at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday on charges of murder and weapon possession linked to a deadly shooting on Rae Street near Lake City — where Raikel Brown was killed Sunday morning. WBTW
- ➤ A Pee Dee man was arrested for allegedly stealing 20 guns from a local gun store earlier this year—police found the weapons—and he now faces charges. WMBF News
- ➤ A Florence woman, Patricia Ann Stafford, 60, was arrested Tuesday on charges of unlawful neglect after a 2-year-old girl in her care died from an infection after suffering severe burns between Jan. 8 and Jan. 11—officers said the child did not receive proper medical treatment after officers found her deceased during a disturbance call. - ➤ A bill in the statehouse will lower South Carolina’s top income tax rate from 6.2% to 3.99% for the 2026 tax year—this change removes many deductions that currently lower taxable income, meaning most taxpayers will see little change while some single filers could face higher taxes such as a starting teacher who may pay an extra $723. The bill passed a subcommittee Tuesday and will be considered by the full committee on Thursday. WPDE
