ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A HVAC pipe burst on Wednesday morning at Wilson High School caused minor flooding on a section of the second floor—maintenance crews and the fire department quickly secured the area while students were temporarily relocated and classes resumed with no injuries reported.  WPDE

CRIME NEWS

  • Florence Police arrested two people after a chase led to a drug bust Tuesday.  WMBF News
  • Authorities say a dog fighting ring on 10 properties in Dillon and Marion counties led to 11 arrests and the seizure of 160 dogs, drugs and weapons—Florence Humane Society’s Jayne Boswell urged people to call police if they see many chained dogs in the evening since offenders are dangerous.  WBTW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florence County School District 2 announced that it will waive tuition for nonresident students enrolling at Hannah-Pamplico Elementary, Middle School, or High School (tuition-free enrollment) for the upcoming school year. Applicants must provide a release letter and academic records (admission may be denied if overcrowding occurs).  WMBF News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rep. Bill Taylor got his hands‑free cellphone law approved by the House on Wednesday after eight years of trying as federal highway funds risked being cut. The bill will fine drivers $100 for a first offense and $200 for a second offense — it allows cellphone use only when accessing them via Bluetooth or a cradle.  WMBF News
