  • A one-year-old drowned Saturday night in an above ground pool in Lake City & Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken confirmed the death on Sunday.  WBTW
  • West Florence Fire Rescue is on the scene after a vehicle collided with a building on South Cashua Drive — one person was injured and taken to hospital as the sheriff’s office and highway patrol investigate.  WPDE

CRIME NEWS

  • A stolen vehicle crashed into the Sedgefield Apartment Complex in Florence Sunday morning around 1—1:30 a.m. with no injuries, and the driver fled the scene after the vehicle was reported stolen from the Absolem Lounge next door.  WPDE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Francis Marion University celebrated its spring 2025 graduates at the Smith University Center where 332 students earned degrees in two separate ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate programs. FMU President Fred Carter, CEO Carl M. Humphries, and Gov. McMaster addressed the graduates and urged them to use their education to build a bright future.  SCNow
  • Florence-Darlington Technical College celebrated its 2025 graduation with 981 students and featured keynote speaker Donna Isgett—who recognized workforce development and high school partners—in a milestone commencement ceremony.  SCNow

  • The Pee Dee Outdoor Classic returns to the Florence Center from July 25 to 27 after a five-year break — offering outdoor gear demonstrations, live animal exhibits and interactive learning for hunting, fishing, camping and off-roading.
