  • Hundreds attended the annual Memorial Day ceremony at Florence National Cemetery on Monday morning to honor over 15,000 service members by placing an American flag at each grave—Camp Commander Matthew Youmans and other visitors also paid tribute by saluting Lt. E.L. Stevens, the last Union officer killed in the Civil War— and visiting loved ones' graves.  WPDE
  • On Memorial Day, community members gathered at Florence National Cemetery to honor more than 15,000 fallen veterans and their families—director Anthony Ramos said the event united locals to remember those who served our country.  WBTW

CRIME NEWS

  • A 33-year-old Florence man has been charged with domestic violence and other crimes after he allegedly waved a handgun at his wife and 4 children and threatened to kill them during an argument at a residence on Wingate Ave on Saturday; he remains at the Florence County Detention Center.  WBTW
  • Carolyn Troiana, 62, returned to the hospital after a dog attack on Big Swamp Road in Pamplico where three dogs mauled her on her porch and her neighbor’s son helped by keeping her scalp cool until EMS arrived—doctors later reattached her scalp.  WPDE
  • Three people were shot Monday evening off Macedonia Church Road in the Cash community, including two teens who had just graduated high school+ all victims were taken to hospitals in Florence as the investigation continues.  WPDE

  • The School Foundation announced that its grants to Florence 1 Schools now exceed $2,434,841—this total includes a new allocation of $168,478.92 for the 2025-2026 school year to support educational programs and student well-being.  SCNow
