  • Florence County first responders are among several Pee Dee agencies receiving grants from Duke Energy’s HERO program; the county will use $20,000 to buy a UTV and barricades while the Florence fire department will use $14,000 to install a vehicle repeater system for emergency communication. Officials say the funds will improve preparedness and response to future severe weather events — keeping lines open during outages.  WBTW
