  • The Care House of the Pee Dee on Second Loop Road in Florence has served nearly 10,000 children over 20 years by providing support for victims of abuse. Executive director Meg Temple said the center helps children affected by sexual and physical abuse—working with law enforcement, DSS, and community partners to ensure they get the care they need.  WBTW

CRIME NEWS

  • Police responded around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday to a domestic disturbance at a home on Simmons Street in Lake City—one person was fatally stabbed and another was hospitalized with a gunshot wound.  WBTW
  • A Florence 20-year-old man is accused of killing one person — and injuring another — in a disputed gun sale, according to the Florence Police Department.  SCNow
  • On May 20, a head-on collision on Olanta Highway claimed the life of deputy Nathaniel 'Nate' Ansay and injured driver Mark Browder, who sued the Sheriff's Office after the sheriff admitted fault due to rainy conditions — the lawsuit claims Ansay crossed the centerline, leading to the crash.  The Post and Courier

  • The Florence County Judicial Center is now officially named for the late Councilman James T. Schofield—who served from 2007 until his death in 2020 and helped secure funding for the new courthouse.  WPDE
