ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Florence man, 22-year-old Tallon Goff, died from injuries he received in a boating accident on Tea Farm Creek last week when his boat passed under the low-clearance Highway 17 bridge + the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said the incident is under investigation.  WBTW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Gregory Dukes has been named principal at J. Paul Truluck Creative Arts and Science Magnet School — he brings 14 years of teaching experience. He will focus on building the school's creative arts and science program.  SCNow
  • Mary Howard is now the chief academic officer for Florence School District 3 — she will lead academic programs to boost student achievement and improve graduation rates.  SCNow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florence County officials announced a tax increase that will fund a 3 percent pay raise for employees and allow the sheriff’s office to add ten positions—four for patrol deputies. The measure is expected to support public safety and boost employee wages.  SCNow
