CULTURE NEWS

  • Icesiz Davis, Miss Florence All American, will represent Florence later this month in the Miss All American pageant in Charleston and will promote mental health awareness. Davis said pageantry helped her overcome depression and anxiety—she hopes her platform will reduce the stigma around mental health in the community.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brandon Brown, a 5th generation South Carolinian, education leader, and small business owner, announced his run for the U.S. Senate on Wednesday, challenging Lindsey Graham and vowing to support working and middle-class families. Brown said his campaign will launch this summer with town halls and a statewide listening tour—focusing on boosting small business and protecting Medicaid, rural hospitals, and farmers.  WPDE
  • Lake City city council approved a new juvenile curfew on Tuesday to curb late-night activity after recent shootings. The rule sets a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for children 15 and younger and from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. for 16- and 17-year-olds, and parents will face fines for violations — officials say the measure aims to cut juvenile gun violence.  WBTW

HEALTH NEWS

  • The South Carolina Department of Health announced on Wednesday its first measles case since September 2024 in an upstate resident who was unvaccinated and contracted the virus during an international trip before isolating at home. Health officials are investigating contacts—urging vaccinations to help prevent further spread.  WPDE
