EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ South Carolina public schools are required to provide seizure training programs to help staff support students with epilepsy and seizures— a law that went into effect on July 1 and passed unanimously except for Senate majority leader Shane Massey. WBTW
- ➤ On Monday, over 16,000 Florence County District 1 students returned to school and saw renovations including flexible chairs for all and a new playground at Theodore Lester Elementary. The district completed over 100 projects to update its facilities while some registration issues were resolved. WPDE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A proposed $46.9M hiking and biking trail will connect Florence’s Rail Trail with downtown Sumter along a 32-mile route through Timmonsville, Lynchburg — and Mayesville. The project is in its feasibility phase and officials will hold public meetings while discussing land details with CSX. The Post and Courier
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Amelia Honer won the McLeod for Health Florence Open on Sunday—she entered as a wild card and defeated top seed Robin Anderson in straight sets 6-3 and 7-6. The event raised funds for Mammogram Scholarships at McLeod Health. WFXB
