ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, crews from West Florence Fire-Rescue — along with Windy Hill Fire Rescue and the city of Florence Fire Department — responded to an intense fire at the former Travel House Inn on W. Lucas Street near Florence, with the blaze starting around 6 a.m. and heavy damage reported to the first and second floors; the scene remains active as investigations continue.  WBTW

CRIME NEWS

  • Police charged Charles Sinclair and homeowner Dinisha Barfield—each facing felony possession charges and misdemeanor child abuse—after a search of a home on Furman Drive last Thursday uncovered suspected cocaine, fentanyl, oxycodone, and money while two small children were found inside.  WFXB

ECONOMY NEWS

  • South Carolina will hold its annual Tax Free Weekend from Aug. 1 to Aug. 3—shoppers will pay no 6% sales tax and local taxes on items like school supplies, computers, clothing, and bed and bath goods. All retailers must participate, including online sellers, and in 2024 shoppers saved over $1.3 million during the holiday.  WBTW
