CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Five Myrtle Beach-area teens have been charged with the murder of 16-year-old Trey Wright in Johnsonville on June 24 (when deputies arrived at a shooting on First Neck Road) and four remain at Florence County Detention Center (while one suspect was released on bond). The Post and Courier
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority will offer fare-free bus and ADA paratransit rides in Florence County starting Monday, Aug. 11—an effort to avoid spending nearly $1 million on outdated fare boxes so funds can go toward new buses; county budget increases helped make the change possible and officials expect a 20—25% rise in ridership with future service expansions planned. - ➤ Filing for municipal elections in Florence and Darlington counties has started—Florence candidates may file at town halls and the County Voter Registration Office until noon on Aug. 15 while Darlington candidates file at their local offices until that time. Elections will be held on Nov. 4—voters should review candidate information ahead of the vote. SCNow
