CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 7, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged McBee Police Capt. Gregory P. Block and Janece Jorden Curtiss with crimes after they allegedly stopped a child sex abuse investigation when a child did not get needed care—Block is accused of filing a false report and Curtiss of trying to change a doctor's report. - ➤ Police arrested a Florence man for murder after an autopsy revealed more details in the July shooting—new evidence contradicts the initial report that the victim shot himself. WMBF News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials announced last week that the City of Florence and the South Carolina Office of Resilience began building the Pennsylvania Street Stormwater Mitigation Project to fix long-standing flooding in historic West Florence. The five- to seven-month project, funded with $5.1 million from ARPA and about $1 million from the city, will replace nearly 1,300 feet of pipe, clean 2,380 feet of storm drainage, and install 39 new drainage boxes (helping first responders and residents move safely).
