CULTURE NEWS

  • The Harlem Globetrotters will bring their 100-Year Tour to Florence Center on Dec. 7—featuring new jerseys and premium fan experiences.  SCNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Florence County Library System announced that September is Library Card Sign-Up Month—inviting new Florence residents to get a free library card and access local resources. Residents can visit any branch during September to sign up and learn more about available programs.  SCNow
  • On September 9, Heritage Digital held its second annual Feed Hope Food Drive at FDTC—where over 44 businesses joined to donate non-perishable food and hygiene products to stock the Stinger's Nest food pantry and help remove barriers for students.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florence City Council passed a resolution this week that designates September as Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month — urging residents, schools, and health providers to join events that support awareness and accessibility. Councilman Zach McKay, who was injured in September 2023 from a fall, said he will work with the mayor on improving public walkways and other services for people with disabilities.  WPDE
  • Florence City Council adopted three master plans to improve aging water, sewer and stormwater systems—addressing discolored water, flooding, and sewer overflow that affect local residents. The plans, voted on unanimously after more than two years of work, will guide projects for 20 years with work beginning next year.  The Post and Courier

  • Integral Communities is planning 1,261 new homes with commercial & recreational areas on 378 acres in Florence, and a rezoning request was submitted for the seven-phase project that will steer future development.  SCNow
