- ➤ On Sept. 19, police arrested a teaching assistant at West Florence High School for using a spray that mimicked fecal odor — the act disrupted classes, caused respiratory issues and medical visits, and led to a $55,000 expense as the investigation continues for possible further charges. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice John Kittredge warned Wednesday that extreme gerrymandering might let one party control the state’s Congressional seats—he said the 5–0 decision upheld maps that could weaken minority representation. SCNow
- ➤ South Carolina legislators have not been paid for months after state Sen. Wes Climer sued over a constitutional limit on in-district compensation—this halted their raise from $1,000 to $2,500 a month until the court rules on the case set for Oct. 22. Lawmakers say they have used personal funds to cover expenses during this pause. SCNow
