- ➤ The City of Florence is investing millions to revitalize North Florence by demolishing the 40-year-old Oakland plantation apartments and other abandoned structures to make way for a new affordable housing development that will be named the Dr. Iona D. Jones community. The city is finalizing construction plans, securing a $12-million stormwater drainage upgrade, and will hold a City Council meeting on Oct. 13 to review projects & launch an empowerment walk this Saturday & offer $25,000 down payment assistance for new homes on Brunson Street.
