- ➤ On Oct. 9, 2025, the City of Florence, Housing Authority, and Francis Marion University hosted an unveiling ceremony on Maxwell Street to place the Dr. Iola Jones Park historical marker that honors a local social worker’s legacy of community service—she devoted nearly 30 years to improving local programs and public welfare. - ➤ The PeeDee IceCats played the first professional hockey game in nearly 20 years at the Florence Center on Oct. 10, 2025—ticket sales began at 2:00 p.m. and gates opened at 6:15 p.m. for pregame festivities. The team faced the Columbus River Dragons to launch the 2025-2026 season while 2,500 fans received limited-edition poker chips from Pepsi. WPDE
