  • Florence readers took part in a Post and Courier Pee Dee poll that showed 41% picked Trader Joe’s as the next grocery store, with nearly 1,000 votes cast. Trader Joe’s now has six locations in South Carolina—its closest store for Florence shoppers is in Myrtle Beach, while Costco and Whole Foods received fewer votes.  The Post and Courier

  • Florence's First Presbyterian Church will host a free community concert on November 6 featuring renowned concert pianist Dr. Benjamin Woods—professor emeritus at Francis Marion University.  SCNow

  • Francis Marion University established new forestry scholarships funded by a Darla Moore Foundation donation to help address workforce needs in South Carolina's forestry industry — the program aims to train skilled professionals for future growth.  SCNow

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA approved Kygevvi this week for treating TK2D—a rare, life-threatening disease that makes it hard for patients to move and breathe—in Florence. Six-year-old Jeremiah, diagnosed as an infant, will keep taking the drug three times a day after studies showed it cuts the risk of death by 86%.  WPDE
