CULTURE NEWS

  • Campbell’s new State of the Sides report showed that dressing is the most popular Thanksgiving side dish among South Carolinians. The survey of 5,000 adults conducted this summer confirmed that while mac & cheese is rising in popularity, dressing remains the favorite — a clear nod to local tradition.  WPDE
  • The Masterworks Choir will perform Christmas favorites in Florence as part of their annual concert series. The event features 85 voices—an orchestra and guest soloist Kerri Grimsley Roberts will perform 'Gloria' by French composer Francis Poulenc.  SCNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florence County Youth Service Coordinator Paula Childers will retire at the end of December—she will miss local families yet looks forward to new adventures after many years of service.  SCNow

HEALTH NEWS

  • Florence residents are urged to get a flu shot as the virus spreads through coughs, sneezes and touching germs on surfaces. Health officials say the shot protects high-risk groups such as the elderly, young children and people with weak immune systems — local providers offer low-cost vaccines.  The Post and Courier
  • McLeod Health Foundation’s Circle of Excellence granted $60,620 to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence County to fund new equipment, patient care tools and staff training, marking a record 24 percent increase from last year’s award+ the grant will improve services in NICU, family medicine and clinical education for local patients. The funding has boosted efforts to enhance care quality for the community.  The Post and Courier
