ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Florence 1 Schools bus crashed into multiple vehicles Tuesday around 3 p.m. on East Old Marion Highway—six children on board were not seriously injured though the driver was evaluated, and parents have complained about the dangerous conditions at dead man’s corner.  WFXB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florence School District 3 welcomed State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver Tuesday as she released the 2025 South Carolina Ready assessment results—she highlighted growing student achievement and outlined plans for improvement.  SCNow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor McMaster announced new funding to place a school resource officer in every public school, with $29.4 million allocated to fill 119 openings — though past misconduct and hiring challenges still raise concerns. Officials stress that improved training and background checks are needed—steps considered key to keeping students safe.  SCNow
  • South Carolina's new Handsfree and Distracted Driving Act took effect on September 1 and forbids drivers from holding their mobile devices except when using audio features—exceptions apply only in specified cases. The law aims to curb distracted driving.  SCNow
